Our Mission
We’re committed to celebrating LGBTQ+ identity, promoting equal rights, and fostering acceptance and solidarity in Freeport and surrounding areas.
Our Values
Community
As a community-led organization, we first and foremost care about uplifting our community to make the everyday lives of the LGBTQIA+ people in Freeport and its surrounding areas safer and brighter.
Education
We intend to share our knowledge of the LGBTQIA+ community with anyone that will hear it through events, resources, and connection.
Inclusivity
We firmly believe in the dignity, autonomy, and worth of all people. And that means everyone!
Visibility
We believe that representation saves lives and set out to amplify LGBTQIA+ history, voices and experiences. We aim to actively fight against and undo the erasure of the queer community in Freeport, PA and its surrounding areas.
What We Do
Our goal at Freeport PA Pride is to create, facilitate and sustain safe, queer spaces in a town where that was not always a reality. Our organization is dedicated to bringing pride, love, care, and friendship to our small western Pennsylvanian town and its surrounding areas.
Through the collaborative efforts of LGBTQ+ community members and dedicated allies, we host events throughout the year such as our Annual Pride Stroll. As we continue to grow, we plan to offer more events to continue to foster more positive queer spaces in Armstrong County and beyond.
How We Started
One summer in 2019, George "Wolfie" Wolfe, a beloved, out and proud member of the Freeport community, led a small group of friends and supporters in a Pride Stroll through the town of Freeport—a bold move for visibility and acceptance. It quickly became a tradition, and now every June, hundreds of people gather to show their pride and support their loved ones.
After Wolfe's passing in 2023, community members continued to plan the Pride Stroll and eventually set up a foundation to serve and support the local LGBTQ+ community beyond the stroll. Freeport PA Pride was officially established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2025.
